Make it interactive

How to Make a PDF Interactive

Short answer

You can make a PDF interactive by publishing it as an online flipbook and adding clickable or embedded elements such as links, buttons, video and calls to action. This keeps the original PDF design while adding browser-based interactive features.

Two ways to make a PDF interactive

Edit the PDF file itself. Desktop PDF editors can add links, form fields and media to the file. How those elements behave then depends on the application each reader opens the file in.

Add elements to an online version. Publishing the PDF as a flipbook lets you place interactive elements on top of the pages. They're delivered as part of the online reader experience, without depending on the reader's PDF application — and you can change them after publishing.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Adobe Acrobat to make a PDF interactive?

Not for an online version. With HB Flipbook you add interactive elements in the browser on top of your existing PDF pages, without editing the PDF file itself.

Are links already in my PDF kept?

Yes. HB Flipbook detects standard web, email and page links in your PDF and makes them clickable in the reader. You can add more on top.

Which plan includes interactive elements?

Links, buttons, video and hotspots are included on every plan, including Free. Stickers need Starter or above, and lead capture forms need Pro or above.

Does the downloaded PDF include the new elements?

No. Elements added in HB Flipbook belong to the online reader. The original PDF file is unchanged.
