How to Control Reader PDF Downloads

Short answer

PDF downloads are off by default. On Starter and above, open the publication's Branding tab and turn on Allow PDF download to add a download button to the reader. Turn it off again at any time to remove it.

Turn downloads on or off

  1. Step 1: Open the Branding tab

Open the publication and go to Branding → Viewer options.
  2. Step 2: Toggle Allow PDF download

    Starter and above
On adds a download button to the reader; off removes it.
  3. Step 3: Check the embed

If the flipbook is embedded, review the Download control under Share → Embed → Viewer controls and copy the code again if you change it.

When to allow downloads

Allow them for documents people need to keep or print — spec sheets, menus, forms. Leave them off when you want people to read online, where your links, video and view tracking work.

Starter, Pro and Business. On Free, readers can view the flipbook but there's no download button.

Can I hide the download button only in an embed?

Yes. In Share → Embed, the Download control can be turned off for the embedded reader while downloads stay on for the direct link.

What about password or form-gated flipbooks?

The download is only available after the reader has unlocked the flipbook.

Can I offer a different file to download?

Yes. Add a Download element from the editor's Add element menu and upload the file you want readers to get.
